Abstract
|
|
|
The mesenteric cyst is a relatively rare disease which gives interest to general surgeons. Be
cause they have no pathognomic symptoms, signs, laboratory or radiographic findings. They are
usually diagnosed at operation.
They occur along the G-I tract, from duodenum to rectum, and are commonly found in the
mesentery of small bowel rather than mesocolon.
Benevieni, a Florentine anatomist, was the first to observe a mesenteric cyst in 1507 while
performing an autopsy.
Rokidansky gave a more detailed description of the condition in 1842.
In 1880 Tillaux reported the first successful cure of a mesenteril cyst, and therafter an esti
mated 600 cases had been reported upto 1965.
We here reported three cases of mesenteric cysy treated at Severance Hospital during the past
5 years and reviewed literature on the mesenteric cyst.
